Schedule
Precise work patterns can vary but are based on
a regular schedule of 5 working days per week. Usually
teachers work at one particular school on any given
day of the week but go to a different school each
day (Monday - school A, Tuesday - school B etc).
The idea is that teachers see the same students
at the same location, each week. This enables teachers
and students to get to know each other properly
thereby building a proper teacher/student relationship,
and it establishes a pattern for effective learning.
It is a far superior system to that frequently employed
by other schools where student attendance is not
pre-arranged and teachers can teach completely different
students each week in the same class.
Most teaching takes place in Shane schools, and
contact time is then between 4-7 hours per day,
usually between the hours of 1 pm and 10 pm. Sometimes
teachers work at outside locations (such as companies,
private houses, kindergartens etc) in which case
lessons can take place in the morning. Teachers
are expected to teach the equivalent of around 25
hours per week throughout a quarter, and any teaching
over this earns credits towards a quarterly bonus.
Average hours for a five day schedule are 25 though
variations above and below this figure are possible.
Holidays
Holidays are a big advantage of working for Shane. There
are 6 weeks of paid leave per year. This
includes non-working periods of 6 days in spring,
8 days in summer, and because Shane is British company
and understands that teachers like having a Christmas
holiday, it also includes 10 days at Christmas/New
Year.
