So, how far does the salary really go?
You might be surprised to know that the cost of
living in Japan is actually quite low. There is
little inflation, low taxation, and many everyday
purchases are cheaper than in the UK. (Check
prices of everyday items).
The
main deductions from the salary are income tax
(6%), rent (up to 78,000 yen) and medical insurance
(about 7,000 yen). All travel costs to work are
reimbursed by the company.

Shane
salaries are competitive and allow teachers to
have a perfectly reasonable standard of living,
although how much can be saved depends on the
lifestyle of individual teachers.

The
contract
All initial contracts are for one year. Please
do not apply if you cannot commit to at least
this one year term.
With the agreement of both parties, contracts
can be extended following the satisfactory completion
of the first year. Shane Corporation obtains working
visas for all who are offered and accept employment.
Teachers are advised on all necessary documentation
required to obtain a working visa. The process
takes from 1 to 3 months depending on the workload
of the Japanese immigration authorities.
